Lethal Weapon

With over seven minutes of previously unavailable scenes, the director's cut of Lethal Weapon is a long-overdue present for fans. Riggs's solitary homelife and the tragic loss spurring him in a reckless disregard for his own safety now come into greater focus. We see that recklessness is new scenes underlining the differences between the two cops. Murtaugh, just 50, needs reassurance about his skills at a firing range. Riggs, not caring if he sees another birthday, coolly walks into a schoolyard sniper's field of fire. All the humor and adrenaline that made this original an entertainment milestone are here, too. Product Notes

Two tough Los Angeles cops, one who carries a lethal weapon (Glover) and the other who is one (Gibson), are teamed as partners in a highly unusual case involving a massive international ring which has its roots in Vietnam - a place they are both all too familiar with. This film, with its fresh, energetic combination of comedy, drama and action, has managed to spurn three highly successful sequels.

The opening scene starts with an airborn view of Los Angeles where a gorgeous blonde chick, clad in a white nightgown, lying on a red sofa. Next to her on a table with drugs situated on top. The young lady gets up to sniff the drugs, then walks outside to the balcony, leans toward the railing and take her fatal plunge to her death. Mel Gibson was flat-out excellent as mentally unbalanced cop Det. Martin Riggs. As he combines his versatility as both a stong action hero and a lovable clown. Using both his charm and charisma, Riggs is probably one of the most endearing characters in film history. As a man whos perpetually grief-stricken after the death of his wife in a fatal automobile accident, Riggs has been living an unsettling life. Hell go far as to dare someone dangerous to kill him, even if its just for kicks. Many times Riggs tries to kill himself. With the assistence of his .9 mm. Beretta, he places the gun into his mouth and attempts to pull the trigger. Other attempts of suicidal tendencies is when another hes on top of a building and another jumper is nearby. He places one part of a handcuff on the jumpers wrist and another on his wrist as he gracefully throws the key in the air. As a unstable gunman, he fires shots without blinking claiming that "killing was the only thing he could do well". Riggs joins forcing with a reluctant aging African-American police detective Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) to explore further investigation to the suicide of the young lady who fell to her death, which puts the dynamic duo in the center of a major drug bust. Glover is equally effective and is known for stealing every scene hes in. Murtaugh is from the old-school of investigating as he is fixated on retirement but perfers to play by the rules rather than take risks like his partner Riggs. Pushing towards 50, Murtaugh wants to just forget about his achievements hes accomplshed as an investigator and wants to spend time with his family. When news gets around that his daughter has been kidnapped, Murtaugh bites his tongue and goes along with Riggs risky ways in order to get his daugter back. Gary Busey is Mr. Joshua,a cold-blooded evil druglord whos also has had experience as a Vietnam vet. Joshua will go to any lengths necessary into how much the cops know about his drug rings. His boss General Peter MacAllister (Mitchell Ryan)who looks even more menacing than Joshua like as though he has icicles running through his veins. The evil general turns up the crank in the investigation by ordering Murtaugh to be annihilated and in the process kidnaps hisadorable daughter Rianne (Traci Wolfe) in order for Murtaugh to speak. Director Richard Donner this movie combines plenty of bone-chilling action, great humor and brilliant acting by the cast. This goes beyond all expectencies from a cop-drama. The final action scenes pit Riggs and Murtaugh againt the General and his goons features some of the best choreographed fight scenes ever put on film.
