Title Note

Additional personnel: Suzi Jane Hokum, Billy Strange (vocals).

Audio Remasterer: Gary Hobish.

Originally released in 1967, LEE HAZLEWOODISM: ITS CAUSE AND CURE was the iconoclastic singer-songwriter's fifth solo album overall, but his second for MGM Records. Released at the height of Hazlewood's public fame, while both Frank and Nancy Sinatra were taking his songs to the top of the charts, the album is as deliberately quirky as its title, and takes no commercial shortcuts towards popular success.

Indeed, songs about the vicissitudes of the music industry such as "The Old Man and His Guitar" hint at Hazlewood's eventual self-imposed retirement from the Hollywood scene. With elaborate orchestrations by his usual collaborator, Billy Strange, and such oddball story-songs as "The Girls In Paris" and "The Nights," about a European woman who lives with a tribe of Native Americans, this is a pointedly strange, deliberately non-commercial album that cements Lee Hazlewood's contrary persona. This reissue includes no bonus tracks, but features excellent remastered sound and extensive liner notes.
