This 2006 release pairs together the first two solo records by Stuart Staples, the deep-voiced frontman of the revered British chamber-pop ensemble Tindersticks. More minimal than the lush, cinematic work of his long-running group, the melancholy compositions here shine an even brighter spotlight on Staples's distinctive croon, as revealed on "That Leaving Feeling," a duet of wanderlust with Lhasa De Sela, and "Dark Days," a haunting acoustic track. While the Tindersticks are on indefinite hiatus, this generous double album proves an excellent way for fans to get their Staples fix.
