Title Note

2 LPs on 1 CD: AT LARGE (1959)/HERE WE GO AGAIN! (1959).

The Kingston Trio: Dave Guard, Nick Reynolds, Bob Shane.

Additional personnel: David "Buck" Wheat (bass).

Recorded in New York, New York in February & May 1959. Originally released on Capitol (1199) and Capitol (1258).

As if to prove a point, this was the second album by the Trio that went to number 1 in the same year, in their homeland. Back in post-McCarthy America, the folk song had been far less complicated and more immediate. This was an era when right-on students and town dwellers began to look to folk as a focal point for social comment. Recreators such as the Kingstons, as well as authentic rural performers, opened up folk to an ever-expanding audience. With albums like this, folk for "pop thinkers" was being created and a whole movement had its foundations in back-to-basics, quickly formulated recordings. AT LARGE is a credit to its genre.
