Title Note

Algerian pop music, called "rai", is a synthesis of Moroccan, French and Spanish elements. It draws on rebellious postures, secular themes like love and sex, traditional beats somewhat funkified, melodies embellished by cascading quavers and stuttering melismas, electric guitars and synthesizers and horns, and disco and funk touches.
