Review

Rolling Stone (p.96) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Dickinson is a roots rocker with attitude who made his name as a piano man..."

Title Note

Personnel: James Luther Dickinson (vocals, 12-string guitar, harp, keyboards); Ed Finney, Jimbo Mathus, Luther Dickinson (guitar); Paul Taylor (electric guitar, chimes); Chris Scruggs (steel guitar, dobro); Greg Spradlin (baritone guitar, background vocals); 'T-Bone' Tommy Burroughs (mandolin, fiddle); Jonathan Kirkscey (cello); Johnny Reno (tenor saxophone); Cody Dickinson (drums); The Hoot Owls, Jessie Hammock, Randy Haspel, Jimmy Davis , Reba Russell, Shannon McNally, Brenda Patterson (background vocals).

The king of Memphis roots music, veteran producer/singer/pianist Jim Dickinson, built up a stunning rep over the years, working with everyone from Aretha Franklin to Big Star to Spiritualized, but he's in no hurry when it comes to his own music. KILLERS FROM SPACE (2007) is only his fourth solo album since his '72 debut. As with its predecessors, KILLERS features a meaty gumbo of country, blues, soul, and rock. His rollicking piano and weathered voice bespeak a lifetime immersed in the verities of musical Americana, alternately hellbent and humble.
