Out of Iggy Pop's numerous post-Stooges solo albums, 1977's KILL CITY is probably his most curious release. Recorded a couple of years before it was released, KILL CITY was a collaboration between Iggy and former Stooges guitarist James Williamson. The duo hoped that the songs would lead to a major label record contract, but unfortunately, things didn't quite pan out that way. Iggy had just been released from a mental institution (to kick his life-threatening drug habit), and wasn't exactly up to par. Still, KILL CITY contains several highlights, and perhaps unsurprisingly, remains his most Stooges-like solo effort. Standouts include the venomous title track, the Stones-esque "Sell Your Love" and "Lucky Monkeys," the instrumentals "Night Theme" and "Mastercharge," plus "Johanna" and "I Got Nothin'" (the last two being holdovers from the duo's previous band).
