Personnel: Hank Jones (piano); Joe Lovano (soprano saxophone).
KIDS, an album of duets between two jazz giants-- saxophonist Joe Lovano and pianist Hank Jones--is as good as one dares to imagine. Elder statesman Jones (88 years old at the time of recording) plays with as much vitality, wit, and elegance as ever, and Lovano displays his usual bold approach, which can deconstruct a tune without ever losing its melodic thread. But the real magic is in the telepathic interplay between the two musicians, which pushes, pulls, pulses, and transcends. The program includes standards, and tunes by Monk and Hank's brother Thad Jones, among others.
