After the dissolution of bouncy `90s Florida punk outfit Discount, lead singer Allison Mosshart moved to London to team up with Brit Jamie Hince. Under the ghost names VV & Hotel, the pair formed The Kills, an indie-rock outfit whose gritty guitar riffs and sexually charged call-and-response vocals captured the attention of Domino Records. The band's 2003 debut, KEEP ON YOUR MEAN SIDE, immediately enthralled critics on both sides of the Atlantic; the even rougher, sparser follow-up, NO WOW, kept the buzz alive. MIDNIGHT BOOM (2008) furthered the Kills' reputation as the duo smoothed out the edges while the undercurrent of rock chaos remained.
