The Wire (p.67) - "[A] remarkably fresh set of tunes, which could have easily originated 30 years ago. Perhaps the best evidence is the bouncing rocksteady version of Lynn Collins's 'Think' by Noelle Scaggs...which consists of horn-led instrumentals reminiscent of the crossover grooves of Boris Gardiner or Byron Lee."

Title Note

Something of an L.A. supergroup featuring members of the Rhythm Roots All-Stars, Breakestra, and Madlib's Sound Directions, the Lions play a version of dub reggae heavily influenced by funk styles from around the globe. Deep dub grooves and classic rock-steady horns abound, but the crack players in the Lions also look to Africa, South America, the Caribbean, and the United States (see the niced-up version of Lynn Collins's classic "Think" for an example of the latter) for their musical ingredients. At its heart, JUNGLE STRUTTIN' is a virtuosic mix of Jamaican riddims, funky grooves, jazzy licks, and a sense of One Love positivity that provides an invitation to any and all to hit the dance floor.
