Taking his place in the pantheon of master animators of a peculiarly Surrealist bent, which include the Brothers Quay (STREET OF CROCODILES) and Jan Svankmayer (FAUST), Jiri Barta produces work that is evocative of a Gothic, magical sensibility. He has also always created work that rails against a consumer society, giving his fantasies an especially poignant edge. This collection includes eight of Barta's most popular shorts: A BALLAD ABOUT GREEN WOOD, THE CLUB OF THE LAID OFF, THE DESIGN, DISC JOCKEY, THE LAST THEFT, THE PIED PIPER OF HAMELIN, RIDDLES FOR A CANDY, and THE VANISHED WORLD OF GLOVES.
