Title Note

Some Celtic and neo-classical artists aim to create thunder and lightning with their music. Bill Douglas's first album is more like soft rain on a shimmering lake: gentle, soothing, and beautiful in its own quiet way. Douglas, a classically trained pianist and oboist with roots in jazz, writes engaging melodies, divided neatly between pretty piano ballads with quiet orchestral backing, and bubbly British Isles folk with traditional acoustic instrumentation.

The song "Deep Peace," based on an old Gaelic blessing, is sung with great feeling by Jane Grimes. This piercing piece of ethereality appeared on the acclaimed CELTIC TWILIGHT compilation, and became so popular that Douglas re-recorded a choral version for a later album, featured it as the first (and title) track, and watched it become a much-covered standard over the next several years.
