Jazz Round Midnight is a pleasant 16-track sampler of some of the most laid-back and mellow tracks Cal Tjader recorded for Verve. Although there are some wonderful songs on the compilation, it is only useful for beginners, since the cut-and-paste nature of the collection will infuriate purisits and serious jazz listeners. However, for neophytes, it's a nice introduction, even it it is a little bit too low-key. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
