Maturing rapidly out of their formative emo stages, mewithoutYou release an ambitious (as indicated by the ornate title), sprawling record for their third LP. Aaron Weiss channels the early spirit of Conor Oberst and Neutral Milk Hotel's Jeff Mangum as he weaves complex stories over a tapestry of folk, baroque, orchestration, indie rock, and chamber-pop. "The Fox, The Crow And The Cookie" falls precisely between the aforementioned influences, with a touch of quirky punk that sits perched on the mantle of They Might Be Giants. ALRIGHT is a bold sign of boundary-breaking ambition, and should serve as inspiration to their pop-punk peers.
