One of the most enigmatic bands to emerge from the early 1990s, New York's Winter produced a sound that would lay the blueprint for a new wave of doom-death, or funeral metal. Nuclear Blast Records pays homage to Winter's dramatic contributions to metal with a special reissue of their debut release, INTO DARKNESS, as well as the very rare follow-up EP, ETERNAL FROST, in one package. Combining Black Sabbath's dirge-heavy riffing and Celtic Frost's apocalyptic crunch, Winter painted a picture of desolation, while keeping the listener entranced in its subtle ambience. While INTO DARKNESS is raw and foreboding, ETERNAL FROST is crisp and stark. This set is essential listening for doom metal purists.
