INSIDE THE HORSE'S HEAD is the second album from Brian Berg and his musical cohorts in 44 Long. The album represents a departure from the country leanings of the group's wonderful debut, COLLECT THEM ALL. INSIDE THE HORSE'S HEAD is rife with Beatles-ish pop. It's also well written from start to finish and muscularly played.

While this effort does draw on a familiar and older sound, this is in no way an exercise in nostalgia. 44 Long show these traditions to be very much alive and open to the stamp of the band's own character. The group's big guitar sounds call to mind Cheap Trick. Berg's songcraft is full of heart and soul. The songs are for the most part romantic, but never sappy or maudlin. This is impassioned pop music, well recorded and played. It moves the body as well as the head and heart.
