Review

The Wire (p.49) - "The tracks sung by Cafritz are more wired and garage punk, but these brief flashes provide the contrast for Gordon's murkier shades, as when the creationist-baiting 'Bananas' gives way to the sprawling 'Monster Eye'."
Clash (magazine) (p.126) - "The whole album is a lo-fi, underground, muted affair....All breathy vocals, tunnel echoed drones, guitar reverberations -- Free Kitten are the only supergroup you ever need..."

Title Note

Free Kitten: Julie Cafritz, Kim Gordon (vocals, guitar).

It's unclear why it took a decade-plus for Kim Gordon and Pussy Galore's Julie Cafritz to find renewed inspiration for what was always an exercise in deconstruction. Perhaps they wanted to come back and build something a little more substantial. INHERIT is no less lo-fi than previous efforts , but (with notable exceptions like "Help Me" and the dissonant drone, "Billboard"), it's a bit more tuneful than Free Kitten predecessors such as UNBOXED or NICE ASS. The first half of the album boasts solidly structured downers like "Sea Sick," highlighted by the duo's sarcastic harmonies. Fans of Kim Gordon's beat-punk poetry will find plenty here to distract them from the toy-kit drumming and messy guitar scraping of songs like "The Poet." But it all comes together at the end with the 11-plus-minute "Monster Eye," a robust suite of noisy atmosphere that best answers the question of whether Free Kitten has matured into a full-grown prowler of a cat.
