A collaboration between Native American flautist R. Carlos Nakai, Tibetan flautist Nawang Khechog, guitarist William Eaton, and percussionist Will Clipman, IN A DISTANT PLACE brings Native American and Tibetan folk traditions together under the rubric of soothing, spiritual music. There is a great delicacy and tenderness to Nakai's and Khechog's playing, and Eaton displays fluid fretwork on the spiral clef guitar. Four of the 12 tracks feature Tibetan chants, which are intoned as the musicians improvise on sweet and lilting themes. IN A DISTANT PLACE makes good on its title, providing a listening experience that relaxes, transports, and creates an atmosphere of deep meditation.
