Most importantly, his music is devoted to a message: that of the qawwal's passion for Allah, for the Prophet Mohammed, and for all those in the long line of Sufi poets and musicians who are equivalent to Christian saints.
On this, volume four in a five-CD release series, we hear the devout authority of Nusrat Ali Khan's singing. Joined by a chorus of nine singers and his brother Farrukh, Nusrat sings three emotionally charged, virtuoso pieces. This CD includes an English translation of the songs, allowing the Western listener to better embrace this ritualistic music's indelible beauty.
