With a tongue-in-cheek title that nods to the United States--since Cliff Richard had already been a superstar for decades in the U.K.--1976's I'M NEARLY FAMOUS finds the beloved British pop singer/actor returning to his rock roots, albeit with a contemporaneous '70s sheen. Produced by Bruce Welch of Richard's renowned former backing band, the Shadows, FAMOUS not only contains the crooner's first significant U.S. hit, the stomping "Devil Woman," but features both the serene ballad "Miss You Nights," which showcased the charming vocalist at his swooning best, and the lively Bee Gees-esque dance number "I Can't Ask for Anymore Than You." Given that Richard would eventually return to and stick with a lighter, Christian-themed sound, I'M NEARLY FAMOUS is truly one of the most notable albums in his massive discography.
