Alternative Press (p.122) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[A] record as electrifying as their live show. They set the stage with the swaggering spy-rock riff of 'Widow Of My Dreams' before taking it up a notch with the reckless garage-punk abandon of 'Pine On.'"

Since a teenager, Rick Froberg has been at the forefront of punk, whether it was with the challenging, influential Drive Like Jehu or lean and mean Hot Snakes. (He's also been joined at the hip to John "Speedo" Reis, Rocket From the Crypt's ringleader, in all these previous bands.) Now settled in New York City and teamed up with a group of indie rock veterans, Obits is a clean break for Froberg, both in style and in personnel. The music on I BLAME YOU is more backward-looking and blues-based than anything in his back catalog. Swamp-fevered garage workouts like "Pine On" and the title track are reminiscent of Creedence Clearwater Revival at their full-moon best, but also carry hints of punk minimalism and surf adventure. There's even a reverb-heavy cover of a straight-up blues standard, "Milk Cow Blues," here given a fiendish reading more Gun Club than Robert Johnson.
