Title Note

Personnel include: Colette (vocals); Drew K (acoustic guitar); Chris Penny (electric guitar); Home & Garden , Kaskade, Undercover Agency (keyboards, programming); Cobain Rudish (bass instrument); French (background vocals).

Recording information: Angelhouse, Torrance, CA.

A DJ of considerable skill and appeal, Colette puts a spin on the genre by adding her own vocals to her house-inflected, dance-pop mixes. Drawing on trip-hop, electro-funk, acid jazz, steamy R&B, and Top 40 girl-pop, Colette stirs up an immediately appealing concoction of smooth grooves that becomes the perfect canvas for her rich, sultry voice. The lead-off track and first single, "Feelin' Hypnotized," is a four-on-the-floor, disco-tinged number that entrances as it moves the listener's feet. The song already reached a considerable number of ears before the record's release due to its appearance in a Motorola commercial.

The rest of the album follows suit. "What's Wrong with Being Lonely?" and "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On" are dance songs, but have a distinctly light and breezy feel to them, layering a sophisticated lounge vibe over the percolating, insistent beats. The combination is an alluring one, making HYPNOTIZED a finely crafted, dance-pop winner.
