Review

Spin (p.76) - "[T]he duo's seasick guitars, ethereal synths, and Japanese lyricism still provide plenty of geeky studio epiphanies."
Alternative Press (p.134) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "The clouds part on opener 'Layers,' a chiming, relatively minimal lilt. Here, vocalist Yuki Chikudate's stacked, reverberating vocals sparkle like the glint of light off fresh morning dew."
Q (Magazine) (p.93) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[T]hey remain most compelling when Hanna lets rip, as on the propulsive, grinding 'Me & Mary'..."
Clash (magazine) (p.93) - "From the explosive, skyscraping fuzz-crescendo on 'Sunshower' to the 'Wuthering Heights'-esque wonder of 'In The Sky,' Asobi Seksu are still contenders for being one of the most inventive bands out there."

Title Note

Personnel: James Hanna (vocals, guitar, bass guitar); Yuki Chikudate (vocals); Gunnar Olsen (drums); Chris Zane, George Pagonis, Devon Maxwell (percussion).

Audio Mixer: Chris Zane.

Audio Remasterer: Greg Calbi.

Recording information: Gigantic Studios, NY, NY.

The third album by Asian-American duo Asobi Seksu (Japanese for "casual sex," more or less) marks a distinct change from their previous work. Considerably more textured than their scrappier, noisier earlier albums, and with a newfound sense of languor, songs like first single "Me and Mary" and "In the Sky" bear some resemblance to predecessors like the Cocteau Twins, Lush, and Portishead.
