Review

Spin (p.116) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Powered by rattling drums, simmering organ, and Stuart Staples' resonant baritone, the first half of Tindersticks' latest is a can't-miss proposition."
Blender (Magazine) (p.83) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[O]rchestrated torch songs full of strings, horns and top-shelf liquor. Staples still sings in the wounded murmur of Bryan Ferry on the downside of a Fashion Week bender."
Record Collector (magazine) (p.102) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "The urgent, chaotic throb of their debut laces the title track....This is the sound of pure rejuvenation which, you'll be pleased to learn, is also totally rejuvenating."

Title Note

Tindersticks are one of the most consistent alternative bands of the '90s and 2000s, and 2008's THE HUNGRY SAW is a continuation of form. They were inspired to get together and make another album after a reunion show (of sorts) had them all back on stage in 2006, and their listeners are better off for it. The Tindersticks lineup is more stripped down here than on past releases, but the sound remains assured, dense, and romantic. With a deft touch, cellist Andy Nice helps make the gorgeous "Come Feel the Sun" and "All the Love" two of the album's best tracks. Another highlight, "Mother Dear," is almost startlingly immediate. Neil Fraser's guitar was recorded live once with two mics, and it bursts out as if from a different song but, eventually, the jumble coalesces.
