Product note

Underworld: Karl Hyde, Rick Smith.
If there's a pillar of consistency amidst the johnny-come-latelies in the ever fad-conscious electronic world, it's British outfit Underworld. They date back to the late-80s, tasted just a dash of well-deserved pop success with the ubiquitous "Born Slippy" roundabout the center of the electronica explosion into the mainstream, and continue to create intelligent, variegated, distinctive compositions. On A HUNDRED DAYS OFF, the band's first release as the duo of Karl Hyde & Rick Smith (DJ Darren Emerson left to pursue solo projects) since their first couple records, Underworld crafts its usual synthesis of many styles from many eras.
As close to bands like Ride and Slowdive as they are to Orbital, Orb, and the like, Underworld bury vocals (usually Hyde's) communicating curious, unsettling lines (like "I think he smoked his lungs" on "Luetin") under lush soundtracks that swirl and entrance. Hyde and Smith's music has always hearkened back to their early days in the new-wave '80s, but has also always incorporated elements of punk, psychedelic, ambient, trance, etc. into a sound poppy yet by no means simplistic, readily digestable yet far from disposable. A HUNDRED DAYS OFF furthers this trend.

Album Description

Sixth studio album from London techno crew, their first since 1999's 'Beaucoup Fish'. Regrouping following the departure of pivotal member Darren Emerson, the duo deliver a joyous, upbeat collection of surging techno and mutant acid house to rival any of their previous work. Includes the single 'Two Months Off'.
