Product note

Recorded at Mute Worldwide Studio, London, England.
HOWYOUDOIN is the first Renegade Soundwave release since one-third of the group (Carl Bonnie) left to persue a solo career. Danny Briotett and Gary Asquith stayed on to continue with the band's ecclectic style of nearly-dance music too influenced by punk, rock, reggae and in this instance, even rap, to be of much use to a dance floor. More suited to long solitary car rides or late nights, this album presages Tricky's labyrinthine trip MAXINQUAYE (1995) and Beck's patchwork ethic on 1996's ODELAY.
From the Jim Morrison-style vocals and arena rock drums on the title track to the swirling rhythms and stretched vocals in the song "John Holmes" (a tribute to the porn star), Renegade Soundwave makes cerebral music for fervant fans. "Brixton" uses distorted guitars and a frenetic pace to express the quality of life in the London 'hood and "Blast Em Out" contains the seeds of the British trip-hop sound that would find a counter-cultural audience in America with artists like Tricky, Portishead and Morcheeba.
