Liza Minnelli has been a legend since her 20s, performing with a timeless flair and strength that seems to float above the buzz and fanfare of the ever-shifting music scene. Though her style harks back to the days of vaudeville, there's nothing old about her way of expressing herself and her songs.

Many of her greatest performances are written for expressly for her, and on one featured here, "A Quiet Thing," she embraces the listener with her sensitive vocals. Her voice fills with emotion as she sings "Maybe This Time," her standard from "Cabaret." She performs old songs like Irving Berlin's 1913 "Alexander's Ragtime Band" with verve, in an appropriate match of immortal song and immortal singer.
