Most producers who dabble in singing do so more out of vanity than because of any overwhelming talent. (Think P Diddy.) But L.A.-based Damon Aaron, much like Jamie Lidell, wears all his hats with style. The soulful, moody jams on his HIGHLANDS, all gently flecked with synth and syncopated percussion touches, are an ideal complement to his sultry vocals. Aaron has previously collaborated with Breakestra and Telefon Tel Aviv, and anyone who's heard the latter duo's A MAP OF WHAT IS EFFORTLESS knows what to expect with the special mixture of soul singing and laptop-folk experimentalism to be heard on HIGHLANDS.
