Editorial Reviews

TOWER.COM REVIEW

On February 24, Medici Arts releases the live performances of the Herbert von Karajan Memorial Concert. The Berliner Philharmoniker, Seiji Ozawa, conductor and former student of Karajan, and Karajan's "discovery of the century", violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter gave this triumphant and reverent performance in January 2008 at the Vienna Musikverein to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great conductor. The concert's repertoire included the Beethoven Violin Concerto, which Mutter had performed and recorded with Karajan 30 years earlier, and the Bach Partita for Solo Violin No. 2 in D minor: Sarabande. The tribute concluded with Ozawa conducting Karajan's "Berliners" in a passionate and animated performance of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.6 in B minor, "Pathetique".
