Synopsis

Title Note

Texas firefighter Paul Neal "Red" Adair served as one of the technical advisors for the film as well as being the reported inspiration for the film. Adair continued to fight fires well into the nineties, including the oil fires that clouded Kuwait following the Gulf War. At a rate of over one per week for over 35 years, more than 2000 in all, the 78-year-old finally stepped down after selling his company in 1994.

Filmed in Houston, Malaya, and Venezuela. Shot in Technicolor.

In one of Wayne's less spectacular later dramas from 1968, he plays real-life character Red Adair, owner of a Texas company which puts out oil well fires. Ross, fresh from earning an Academy Award nomination for THE GRADUATE, in '67 plays his feisty daughter.
