Review

Magnet (p.97) - "HEAVY INTERNATIONAL is another great leap, tumbling through a world of dancehall, zydeco rap, sci-fi special effects, spy-movie soundtracks and Cantonese opera."
The Wire (p.50) - "There's something joyfully mongrel and itinerant about this record....In fact, this whole record is off-kilter, happily falling into the gaps between its many genres."

Title Note

The Eternals (Rock): Wayne Montana (bass instrument); Tim Mulvenna (drums); Damon Locks (drum machine).

This Chicago trio plays an intoxicating mix of dense, lurching dub and funk, switching rhythmic gears often enough to keep things both dangerous and hypnotic. This is dub beamed through a prism of Rough Trade-style post-punk, with bassist Wayne Montana (formerly of Trenchmouth) shining in a starring role. The stand-out here is "The Origin of the Heatray," an unsettling piece featuring keyboardist Damon Locks's melodica, sounding like a lone voice of outrage and reason in a maelstrom of chaos.
