Heart Artist Snapshot:

Led by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson, Heart struck a crucial blow for feminisim in the male-dominated world of '70s rock. They could switch from powerful, Zeppelin-like grandeur to gorgeous acoustic ballads in the blink of an eye and turned out a stream of radio staples. By the '80s, they were churning out slick pop, but the sisters re-emerged in the '90s in stripped-down acoustic duo format as the Lovemongers.

Title Note

Heart: Ann Wilson (vocals); Nancy Wilson (guitar, mandolin, vocals); Howard Leese (guitar, keyboards, mandolin, background vocals); Mark Andes (bass); Denny Carmassi (drums).

Additional personnel: Frankie Sullivan (guitar); Holly Knight (keyboards); Johnny Colla, Lynn Wilson (background vocals).

Recorded at The Record Plant, Los Angeles and The Plant Studios, Sausalito, California, between January and April 1985.

The other Wilson sisters strode wilfully back into the international charts with their self-titled debut for Capitol Records, now seen as the first female AOR classic. Drawing on outside writers to help develop the project, they created an album of enormous musical wealth that charted internationally with a host of successful spin-off singles. With Ron Nevison's lush production and the Wilsons' soulful vocals, tracks such as "What About Love," "Never," and the yearning "These Dreams" were guaranteed sellers, while the band still rocked majestically for "If Looks Could Kill' and "Wolf," in particular.
