The Blackbyrds: Orville Saunders (guitars); Allan Barnes (winds, saxophone); Kevin Toney (keyboards); Joe Hall III (bass instrument); Keith Killgo (drums).

Additional personnel: Barney Perry (guitars); Stephen Johnson (winds, saxophone); Perk Jacobs (percussion).

Formed in the mid 1970s by jazz trumpeter Donald Byrd, the Blackbyrds ventured far into soul/funk territory much like the contemporaneous work of Herbie Hancock and George Duke. With groove as its guide, the Washington, D.C.-based ensemble even garnered a few minor pop hits, most notably the dance-oriented title track and the light, breezy single "Walking in Rhythm," both of which are featured on this well-compiled collection.
