The Mondays were infamous as well for popularizing Ecstasy by handing it out at their shows, and the volatile lead singer, Shaun Ryder, was notorious for his ever-escalating drug habit. Success only amplified this lifestyle, sapping his creative strength even as the group climbed the charts, and leading to an abrupt dissolution in 1993. Ryder made a surprise comeback in the early '90s with his new project, Black Grape, and he even reformed the Mondays for a few extraordinary shows in 2004. Here Ryder demonstrates the charisma that defined a movement, and the song list includes material from both the Happy Mondays and Black Grape, including "Kinky Afro," "Reverend Black Grape," "Donovan," and "Wrote for Luck."
