Album Description

Oxford, Ohio's the Lemon Pipers effectively ushered in the bubblegum pop era when their psychedelic-lite "Green Tambourine" catapulted to the top of the charts in early 1968. Legend has it that, due to its unprecedented success, the band was pressured by their label, Buddah Records, to replicate their commercial success, while its members wished to pursue more creative goals beyond the three-minute pop song. GREEN TAMBOURINE collects material from both sides of the Lemon Pipers' pop predilections. The abovementioned hit, along with follow up "Rice Is Nice," are balanced with songs like the nearly 12-minute "Dead End Street/Half Light," which demonstrate a surprising depth for alleged one-hit-wonders.
