Title Note

For his second solo album Mike Gordon continued the instrumental odyssey he established during his tenure with Phish. Probably the hookiest songwriter of those seminal jammers, he had compositional skills that have always been as distinctive as his slinky bass playing, and he fills THE GREEN SPARROW with his best batch yet. "Andelman's Yard"--on which Gordon plays every instrument--finds perculating acoustics wrapped around a breezy melody, while "Travelled Too Far" strikes a darker tone and features ex-bandmates Page McConnell and Trey Anastasio as guests. Other high profile guests include famed Georgia pianist Chuck Leavell who augments the Dixie-fried groove of "Radar Blip" and Bill Kreutzmann, former drummer for the Grateful Dead. Recorded in his home studio in Vermont, THE GREEN SPARROW is an easy on the ears delight that offers catchiness and instrumental virtuosity in equal measure.
