From her rise to stardom as a teenager, Britney Spears has provided practically unlimited grist for gossip columnists' mills for everything from her suggestive wardrobe to her unpredictable personal life. In 2004, the media reached a fever pitch with Spears headlines, as tabloids dissected every aspect of her sudden nuptials, among other things. In answer, Spears covered another longtime gossip lightning rod's response to the critics, Bobby Brown's late-1980s chart-topper "My Prerogative," in a manner equal parts flash and funk, bearing a swagger to match the original. However, the collection goes far beyond its duty of providing an overview of her career. Within the elegant packaging lurks a notable amount of new music. Here Spears offers up two new songs (in addition to the aforementioned cover tune)--the richly orchestral "I've Just Begun (Having My Fun)" and the funky, electronics-laced "Do Somethin'."
