East Texas native Mark Chesnutt claims his place among the greatest modern country performers with this sampling of songs from his six previous albums. Shunning the glitzy side of the business in favor of the gritty, working-class roots of honky-tonk, this contemporary hillbilly storyteller has instilled his own brand of artistic integrity into popular country music. The songs on GREATEST HITS tell stories about real people, from the sweetly sincere ballad "Let It Rain" to the tongue-in-cheek angst of "Goin' Through The Big D": "I'm goin' through the big D and don't mean Dallas/ I can't believe what the judge had to tell us/I got the Jeep and she got the palace."
