Mesh Match For "Greatest Hits" CD by Dionne Warwick:

Dionne Warwick Artist Snapshot:

With her beautifully clear and unmannered, yet soulful, voice, Dionne Warwick became the perfect instrument for the compositions of 1960s pop kings Burt Bacharach and Hal David. The partnership resulted in an incredible string of classic hits, and Warwick's chart success continued well into the '80s, even with other writers and producers providing the material. Few could have predicted her subsequent emergence as a TV personality via the Psychic Friends Network, but regardless of her extracurricular activities, she continued lending her vocal talents to recordings and performances.

Dionne Warwick's GREATEST HITS 1979-1990 is a welcome recapitulation of a spotty but often impressive period in the singer's career, which had been resuscitated by Arista head Clive Davis, who was masterminding the blossoming career of Warwick's cousin Whitney Houston at the same time. Warwick's voice, still outstanding two decades after her first hit, is what lifts these tracks above the pedestrian.

The first cut, a version of Carole Bayer Sager's "That's What Friends Are For" was recorded with Elton John, Gladys Knight, and Stevie Wonder as the music industry's first high-profile AIDS benefit single. It's the album's best-known track, along with the hit "I'll Never Love This Way Again."
