Insane Clown Posse Artist Snapshot:

Shock rock and theatrics are nothing new to the hard-rock world, but few had combined them with hip-hop until Insane Clown Posse came along in the early 1990s. Led by two gentlemen who hide their identities behind Kiss-like Kabuki make-up, the group has a diehard, unsurprisingly testosterone-heavy following. The band also appeal to fans of pro wrestling, a sport which often finds ICP making cameo appearances in the ring.

Review

Melody Maker (12/6/97, p.43) - "It's astute parody, whether caricaturing rip-off evangelical preachers healing disabled people, a radio shock-jock, road-ragers or street-tuff kids getting grounded for not doing their homework....the latest goose-bump-giving [record] in Insane Clown Posse's travelling hip hop circus."

Title Note

Insane Clown Posse includes: Mike E. Clark (various instruments); Violent Jay.

Additional personnel includes: Alice Cooper, Deb Agoli, Kim Marro (vocals); Legs Diamond (vocals, guitar); Slash, Steve Jones (guitar).

Recorded at the Fun House, Detroit, Michigan.

The fact that Alice Cooper and Slash make guest appearances on THE GREAT MILENKO should be your first clue that we're not talking high art here. Insane Clown Posse are masters of the cheap laugh; the Howard Sterns of modern rock, or maybe Beavis & Butthead if they finally realized their dreams of rock stardom. Furthering the great American tradition of dress-up trash-rock that made stars of Kiss and Gwar, the Posse offer up a decidedly unwholesome stew of neo-metal guitar, post-Chili Peppers beats and junior high humor that will be the raison d'etre of bratty little brothers everywhere.
