As a Christian hardcore/screamo band from Dayton, Ohio, "Agraceful" doesnt stand out to much from other screamo/hardcore bands who attempt to do a good job and mixing singing and screaming, but "Agraceful" makes a stand with The Great I Am, their first feature album. The cd opens with A Prophecy: In Reverie, which is a good start for the cd. It shows that their vocalist Joe can blend the higher and lower screams together but at the same time handle the singing used within the choruses. He has a strong voice, and it fits the rest of the sound the band makes almost perfectly. Though I do enjoy his lower screams better, his higher screams sound like they could use some work. The next two tracks to follow basically do the same thing A Prophecy did, combined screaming and singing to create a basic screamo sound, but The Messengers Are Winds Part 1, the 4th track on the cd, is one of my favorite tracks. It has a good pace, a great set of breakdowns and the chorus is catchy, thats if your into hardcore choruses. In Oceans follows Messengers and yet again were thrown back into very basic screamo, which I think gets boring after a while. It may sound like I keep hating on the band, Im not, its just this basic screamo/hardcore rhythm is getting boring. Were getting the same breakdowns over and over and yet, I find it more boring then the last 200 times Ive heard it. Overall, "The Great I Am" is very basic screamo, the band has all the right components, they just need some mixture.
