Review

Alternative Press (p.162) - "Think desert highways, with moonlit tumbleweed and coyotes howling in the cactus-lined hills. He may sound eerily similar to Mark Lanegan at times, but Von Till is convincing in his lonesome troubadour persona."
Kerrang (Magazine) (p.64) - "Here, he takes the path less-worn. The opening title-track feeds off a strangulated, almost-country vibe."
Pitchfork (Website) - "[H]e girds his acoustic guitar with electric guitar, banjo, fiddle, cello, drums and Hammond organ. The result is a lucid, Nick Drake-esque setting subtly crowned with electricity."

Product note

The third solo outing from Neurosis front-man Steve Von Till expands upon the hard-bitten, goth-folk aesthetic of efforts like 2002's IF I SHOULD FALL TO FIELD. Though tracks like "Willow Tree" borrow from the spacious, vaguely psychedelic soundscapes of more recent Neurosis efforts, Von Till never attempts to duplicate that outfit's unrelenting intensity. Instead he focuses on crafting songs with near-mythic lyrical scope, and refining his delicate, though unquestionably foreboding sound. This album also features a number of well-executed interpretations of country and folk numbers by the likes of Nick Drake, Townes Van Zandt, and Mickey Newbury.
