The syllable "Om" is untranslatable, and in a sense has no meaning, but at the same time it is considered by yogis to be the primordial sound of the universe. It is chanted regularly in even the most secular yoga classes, and on this splendid album, the syllable is chanted in a simple but engaging melody, in three different forms: the basic Om chant, as well as "Hari Om" (which means "Hail, Om!") and "Shiva Om," an incantation to the supreme deity. This is set to a backing track of beautiful, heart-beat-paced Native American drumming and vocal harmonies. This calming work is ideal for yoga practitioners, chanters, and anyone in need of chilling out.
