This soldier's eye view of the 2007-2008 surge in Iraq focuses primarily on the role played by the soldiers of one infantry battalion--the 216-- and their efforts to restore order and fight the insurgency. Based in Baghdad, under the command of Col. Ralph Kauzlarich, the soldiers experience the extreme dangers of war, and suffered many losses before gaining ground against the enemy.
