Review

Entertainment Weekly (10/17/97, p.77) - "...Healy stretches every lunkheaded syllable to its elastic limit, until those words bluster almost anthemic. And this Scot's no one-hit wonder--11 more stunners spell stardom." - Rating: B+
Q (1/98, p.115) - Included in Q Magazine's "50 Best Albums of 1997."
Melody Maker (12/20-27/97, pp.66-67) - Ranked #19 on Melody Maker's list of 1997's "Albums Of The Year."
Melody Maker (9/13/97, p.48) - "...In a world which deems it impossible to be all things to all people, GOOD FEELING manages to make you laugh, sing, cry, dance, hurt, and, yeah, rock..."
NME (Magazine) (12/20-27/97, pp.78-79) - Ranked #29 in NME's 1997 Critics' Poll.
NME (Magazine) (9/6/97, p.50) - "...GOOD FEELING contains 12 songs of sturdy brilliance and intermittent beauty....Instead of a blank and passionless exercises in mediocrity, we find a debut of spirited vigour and blatant (but glorious) commercialism..."

Title Note

Travis: Fran Healy, Andy, Dougie, Neil.

Additional personnel: Page McConnell (keyboards); The Joyous Lake Singers (background vocals).

Recorded at Bearsville Studios, Bearsville, New York.

It's rare that bands get second chances, but Travis certainly deserved one. 1997's GOOD FEELING sank almost without trace upon its release, but when 1999's THE MAN WHO became one of the most critically praised albums of the year, many of that album's fans went back and snapped up its predecessor.

What's most impressive about GOOD FEELING is that it's nearly the equal of THE MAN WHO; there isn't a significant jump in quality between the two albums. From sarcastic pop songs like "All I Want to Do is Rock" and "Tied to the '90s" to the folkier "Midsummer Night's Dreamin'" and "More Than Us," Travis maintain a strong musical identity without the self-importance of Oasis or Radiohead, their most obvious points of comparison. If you liked THE MAN WHO, you'll like this. Travis is '90s Britpop at its finest.
