JazzTimes (p.92) - "Darius brings a youthful, high-energy enthusiasm to his pop and R&B flavored tunes that still maintain his forward-thinking smooth jazz roots."
Personnel: Eric Darius (alto saxophone, tenor saxophone); Norman Brown (vocals, guitar); Yvonne Brown (vocals); Frank Selman (electric guitar, wah-wah guitar); Darren Rahn (electric guitar, saxophone, piano, Fender Rhodes piano, Wurlitzer piano, keyboards, bass guitar, drum programming); Jason Rahn (trumpet, flugelhorn); Mike Barkulis, Micah Otano (keyboard, drum programming); Mel Brown (bass guitar).
He has a few other discs out there, but GOIN' ALL OUT is the Blue Note debut of jazz saxophonist Eric Darius. While his engaging style fits well into the smooth-jazz radio format, Darius's approach on this disc ups the ante considerably. ALL OUT features elements of gospel, old-school R&B, hip-hop, and even electronica lovingly folded into the mix. Darius has a big, gorgeous tone on his horns (he switches between alto and tenor sax), evoking past R&B- and blues-impacted sax masters such as Gene Ammons and Grover Washington Jr. His music actually expands the standards of contemporary jazz--GOIN' ALL OUT is smooth and glossy but also earthy and progressive.
