Product note

Personnel: Davy Graham (vocals, guitar); Holly Gwyn.
UK edition.
The British reissue label See For Miles mostly specializes in psychedelia and progressive rock, making their reissue of Davey Graham's 1970 classic GODINGTON BOUNDRY seem a bit odd at first blush. However, one listen to this beautifully pastoral yet complex and wide-ranging album reveals its influence on British progressive rock of the early '70s-particularly on Graham's fellow guitarists Mike Oldfield and Kevin Ayers.
The first star of the '60s British folk scene, the Scottish-Guyanese Graham had already had a direct influence on such acolytes as Paul Simon, John Renbourn, and Bert Jansch. All three musicians recorded versions of Graham's signature composition, "Angi." By the turn of the decade, however, Graham's own music had begun to incorporate influences from a wide variety of ethnic musics. Here, for example, the drones of North African and India delicately influence one of Graham's all-time finest performances, a virtuoso solo guitar rendition of Thelonious Monk's "Round Midnight."
