Since its inception in 2001 by Canadian Clay Hayes, GigPoster.com has become a huge repository for artwork made to promote other art. The quantity of images available is extensive and the quality ranges widely, but GigPosters has a clear definition of what this online archive and gallery contains: "A gig poster is an advertisement for a live musical performance....We do not accept promotional, non-music related posters or posters for shows that did not happen. There must be at least one musical performer listed on the poster...." Now with this printed and bound edition, Hayes gives us some of the best his site has to offer. Work and commentary by leading artists make this a fabulous companion to the site--and offer a more permanent home for a printed art form usually found in shop windows, on street posts, and on construction boards.
