Unlike his famous brother Pliers, Richie Spice's approach to dancehall emphasizes roots more than pop. GIDEON BOOT, Spice's 2008 release, finds him more firmly in roots territory, championing Rastafarian themes and referencing rhythms for old school reggae (tunes like "Wrap Up a Draw" and "World Crisis" are cases in point). In fact, GIDEON BOOT plays much more like a classic roots reggae album than most of the output from Spice's contemporary dancehall peers, and the artist's passionate voice (including his compelling flips into falsetto) make the journey even sweeter.
