Dave Edmunds Artist Snapshot:

British rocker Dave Edmunds began his career in the 1960s with the psychedelic-era band Love Sculpture. His solo career, which embraced an American roots-oriented sensibility encapsulating rockabilly, soul, and R&B, kicked off with a cover of Fats Domino's "I Hear You Knockin'" that became an international hit in 1971. In addition to maintaining a healthy solo career, he laid the groundwork for pub-rock, new wave, and even the rockabilly revival, by producing Brinsley Schwarz, Dr. Feelgood, Ducks Deluxe, Squeeze, Nick Lowe, and the Stray Cats. His collaboration with Lowe in the short-lived supergroup Rockpile remains one of British rock's finest hours.

Title Note

Personnel: Dave Edmunds (vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass, percussion); Bob Andrews (keyboards); Nick Lowe (bass, background vocals); Paul Riley (bass); Terry Williams, Billy Rankin, Steve Goulding (drums).

Recorded at Rockfield Studios and Pathway Studios, London, England.

Personnel: Dave Edmunds; Nick Lowe.

After Nick Lowe played bass on Dave Edmunds' previous release, SUBTLE AS A FLYING MALLET, Edmunds and Lowe started working together in earnest. While GET IT wasn't truly the first Rockpile album (Edmunds' next, TRACKS ON WAX 4, would have all four Rockpile members), it jumps out of the gate like something wonderful and ferocious. Where Edmunds' earlier albums always included a handful of great rocking numbers, GET IT was his first to really maintain a groove from beginning to end. A number of Lowe's and Edmunds' signature songs make their first appearances here, including "I Knew the Bride" and "Here Comes the Weekend." Produced, like all its predecessors, by Edmunds, GET IT's a richly detailed set of songs, warm and punchy throughout. Anyone who can cover both Bob Seger ("Get out of Denver") and Rodgers & Hart ("Where or When") on the same album and have it make sense is indeed a force to be reckoned with.
